Intergenerational Session volunteer

Brighter Together

Helping out in sessions in care homes, engaging older adults (65+) and Early years children (3-4 year olds) in creative, fun and stimulating activities. The sessions last for 1 hour and take place on a weekly basis during term-time only.

Detailed Description

Brighter Together connects care homes or day centres with local pre-schools for weekly sessions to improve wellbeing, support children’s development and strengthen our communities. Our work lessens social isolation for older adults and provides a boost to the confidence and social skills for small children. Our amazing volunteers help make each moment brighter. Their time and energy help to bring joy, connection and real change to the people we work with. Each week, volunteers attend a session (1 hour, typically at a care home) to welcome and support the older adults and young children, role model connections and assist our Session Facilitators. It can involve helping with crafts, games and sensory activities. Our sessions are honest, joyful, and transformative – proving that the simplest moments can create the deepest impact. If you enjoy connecting with people of all ages, we’d love to hear from you.

Why these skills are required

We are looking for volunteers who enjoy meeting people, have a passion to work or volunteer with children or older adults, and want to make a difference in their community.

What is in it for you

This is a heartwarming role, helping to spark connections across the generations. Many of our adult participants say that attending a Brighter Together session is the highlight of their week, and we hear from nursery staff that children genuinely look forward to visiting their older friends every week. If making people's days brighter is something you'd like to be a part of, we'd love to hear from you.
