In-Patient Unit (IPU) volunteer

St Christopher's Hospice

Volunteers join a wider team of nurses, doctors, heath care assistants, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists; dieticians, spiritual carers; orderlies, stewards, complementary therapists and physiotherapists.

Detailed Description

Volunteers in this role provide social interaction, companionship and holistic support to both people staying on our three in-patient wards and their families. This includes a calming presence and listening ear for them and their visitors as well as engaging to understand what matters to them most, and to support the achievement of goals set with support from the ward staff. Volunteers may also support with some ad hoc tasks and may occasionally provide company for in-patients attending external appointments or events.
