School Governor

Sheen Mount Primary School

Sheen Mount Primary School is looking for committed volunteers to join the Governors Board. The role is not operational; governors guide the school’s strategic vision and ethos, hold the Headteacher to account for educational performance of the school, oversee financial performance and ensure money is well spent. Time commitment includes preparing for and attending one pre-scheduled meeting of the Board and of one of its committees per term and at least one annual subject focused visit.

Detailed Description

Sheen Mount Primary School is looking for a committed volunteer to join its Governors Board. We are a three-form entry maintained school situated in spacious grounds with excellent resources, teachers and support staff. Our vision is to support all children, whatever their needs, to reach their full potential. Children are encouraged to take responsibility for themselves and the world that they live in and to demonstrate the school’s values which include love, tolerance, humility and respect. STRUCTURE OF THE GOVERNING BOARD Sheen Mount has 15 Governors who together with the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher and Assistant Headteacher meet once each academic term to provide informed leadership through: • the school’s vision, ethos and strategic direction • holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils • overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent. Much of the Board’s core work is conducted through by its three committees that meet in advance of each Full Board: • CURRICULUM & LEARNING - ensure that Sheen Mount delivers quality teaching and learning for all pupils. • PASTORAL - oversee the arrangements in place to ensure effective pupil safeguarding and to promote the welfare, well-being and personal & social development of Sheen Mount pupils through the integration of pastoral care into every aspect of school life. • RESOURCES - oversee the effective management and deployment of Sheen Mount’s financial and physical resources, with most emphasis given to the understanding and subsequent approval of the financial budget each year. All Governors undertake one or more Link roles allowing them to gain deeper insight and offer constructive observations to promote excellent in a specific academic subject or other important areas of the school’s work. TIME COMMITMENT At least one committee meeting and one Full Governing Board meetings per term are pre-scheduled at the start of each academic session. Governors are additionally invited to participate in an annual ‘learning’ day to meet teachers and pupils and can attend other special events. In addition to preparing for meetings, you will attend regular training and undertake at least one annual visit as Link Governor. Occasionally, governors may participate in working groups or other activity required to support the work of the school. Time Commitment

The role is active during the academic year and Board and Committee meetings are normally pre-scheduled before the start of the year. Full Board meetings take place in the evening (normally 18:30-20:30) and committees are scheduled to meet their members' availability. At least one subject focussed visit will take place during school hours. Training courses are largely online and/or scheduled in the evening.
