Kids Library club arts and engagement volunteer

Hackney Showroom

Help young people discover stories that reflect who they are, and support them to take part in creative book-inspired arts and crafts at our free weekly Story Club.

Detailed Description

Our weekly Kids Story Club (for ages 0–11) invites local children and their grown-ups to explore our magical, inclusive library. With hundreds of beautiful, diverse books (alongside some well-loved classics), our collection centres stories you might not always find elsewhere — from identity and emotions to hidden histories, colonialism, and a wide range of lived experiences, including global majority main characters, neurodiversity, and queer families. Each week, families can relax on bean bags, enjoy snacks, discover new stories, and take part in a book-inspired creative activity. We also have once monthly story readings/activations by a guest artist. We are looking for people to help make Kids Library Club an exciting place for young people. As a Library Club engagement volunteer, you will: - Support children and families to explore books and stories - Help create a warm, welcoming, and inclusive space - Assist with weekly arts and craft activities - Support artist-led sessions and creative workshops This role is ideal for anyone interested in working with children, arts, or community projects, and offers insight into how creative programmes run in a hyper-local setting. You’ll also be part of a radical arts organisation focused on change-making and amplifying marginalised voices. Experience working with children, families, or in arts settings is helpful but not essential — enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved are key.
