As a Sunday Café volunteer you will support our shelter by providing hot drinks and conversation for a small group of our shelter guests- in a premises in the centre of Bromley.
Our Winter Night Shelter provides emergency accommodation to those who are homeless during the coldest, wettest and darkest months of the year- offering a safe place to sleep and a hot meal seven nights a week. This January we are opening our Sunday Café Service- initially trialling with our shelter guests, to provide them with a welcoming, free and warm space to go on Sunday afternoons. As a Sunday Café volunteer you will support our shelter by providing hot drinks and conversation for a small group of our shelter guests- in a premises in the centre of Bromley. • Team volunteering to support those who would otherwise be homeless. We can support volunteering with family members or in small groups, for volunteers aged 14+ (if undertaking Duke of Edinburgh scheme) or 16+. • Drink preparation and clean up- as part of a small volunteer team you will prepare and serve drinks, supervise the guests making their lunch (sandwiches and similar) and keep the café space clean and tidy. • Social interaction- converse with our guests and provide a welcoming space for the afternoon, helping them stay warm and have a space, welcoming space our of the wind and rain during winter months. • Activities- developed with input from the guests, provide a range of activities such as playing card/board games, arts and crafts or other options depending on your own interests and skills. • Pilot project- this is an initial pilot of a Sunday café, partnering with the Bromley Salvation Army, with the potential to grow and support those who are homeless in Bromley more widely should the trial show positive outcomes for guests.
