The role is to support the detainee, helping them to understand what is happening and to communicate with the police. The appropriate adult ensures that the rights and welfare of the individual is safeguarded.
Key responsibilities: To attend a police station as an appropriate adult for the vulnerable individual. Ensure the individual understands their rights and procedures taking place. Facilitate communication between individuals and police. Ensure the interviews and other procedures comply with legal requirements. Ability to maintain confidentiality Be available on a flexible, on call basis. Attend police station promptly when requested Skills and qualifications: Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Empathy, patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality Understanding and willingness to learn Support and Training: Full training will be provided, covering relevant laws, procedures and best practices. Ongoing support and access to resources to assist with the role.
