Youth Work Volunteer (Mobile Youth Hub)
XLP
Volunteer youth worker on one of our mobile youth hubs!
Role Aim: To help create a safe, welcoming, and positive environment on the XLP’s Mobile Youth Hub. These double-decker youth hubs travel into communities to bring connection, support, and activity directly to where young people are. As a Mobile Youth Hub Volunteer, you will help make the space safe and somewhere young people can relax, be themselves, and feel genuinely valued. Aims and Expectations: This role is about showing up with care and consistency. Each session is an opportunity to build trust, listen well, and create moments of belonging. You will be part of a supportive XLP staff team that values empathy, patience, and teamwork. You do not need previous youth work experience, what matters most is that you are reliable, open, and committed to helping young people feel seen and supported. Key Tasks and Responsibilities: • Welcome young people as they arrive, helping them feel safe and included. • Join in conversations, games, and creative or reflective activities led by staff. • Model respect and encouragement, setting a positive tone throughout the session. • Support youth workers to set up and pack down the Mobile Youth Hub before and after sessions. • Contribute to a culture of safety, inclusion, and consistency. • Attend short briefings and debriefs with your Youth Worker Project Lead to share observations and learning. • Report any safeguarding or wellbeing concerns promptly and appropriately. Role Boundaries: Volunteers represent XLP and act as role models at all times. • Keep relationships professional and focused on young people’s wellbeing. • Never share personal contact details or social media, and do not communicate outside sessions. • Do not give or lend money, gifts, or lifts. • Avoid being alone with young people; always remain in sight of staff or other volunteers. • Do not use personal devices to take photos or videos.
