Over 60's Friday Lunch club volunteer

Hackney Showroom

Welcome to the legendary Friday Lunch Club! Every Friday, over-60s from across Hackney come together for a delicious, hearty, freshly cooked three-course meal, a side of bingo, a generous glass of gossip and the occasional post-lunch dance. We’re looking for volunteers to join us and help make the Lunch Club happen.

Detailed Description

About the Friday Lunch Club The Friday Lunch Club is a weekly gathering for over-60s living in Hackney. Every Friday, we come together for a freshly cooked three-course lunch, bingo, music, conversation and the occasional post-lunch dance. It’s become an important part of the week for many of our regulars — a chance to catch up with friends, meet new people, have a good meal and spend time together. For some, it’s their only regular social activity during the week. About the role As a Friday Lunch Club volunteer, you’ll help make the afternoon welcoming, friendly and enjoyable. You might: - Welcome people as they arrive and help them settle in - Serve food and drinks - Have a chat and get to know our regulars - Help with bingo, music and other activities - Help with setting up, clearing away and keeping things tidy - Notice when someone needs a hand and help make sure everyone feels included - Get stuck in and help out wherever needed You’ll also have the chance to get involved in our wider programme for older people, including our Elders' Disco, which takes place each term. If you are interested in volunteering, please register interest in the role and we will be in touch with the next stage of the process.

What is in it for you

Friday Lunch Club is one of the highlights of the week at Hackney Showroom — and not just for our lunchers. It’s a favourite with our staff and volunteers too. You’ll be part of a warm, lively community, build connections with local people and spend your Friday surrounded by good food, conversation and the occasional dance. It’s also a great opportunity to develop your experience of working with older people and marginalised communities, particularly within a community arts setting. Time Commitment

We’re currently looking to build up our regular volunteer team, so we need volunteers who can commit to at least every other week. This helps us keep the Lunch Club running smoothly and gives you the chance to get to know our regulars and build relationships with the community.
