Trustee - Treasurer

What About Now?

We’re seeking a qualified finance professional to join our Board as Treasurer. You’ll oversee financial governance, budgets and statutory reporting, and advise on strategic decisions. Approx. time commitment: 6–8 hours per month (including quarterly Board meetings and ad-hoc support). Passion for mental health and our mission essential.

Detailed Description

Purpose of the Role The Treasurer serves as a trustee of What About Now with specific responsibility for overseeing the charity’s finances, ensuring robust financial governance, and supporting the Board in making sound financial decisions in line with our mission and values. Act as the Board’s lead on financial matters, working closely with the Chair and founder. Oversee the preparation and presentation of budgets, management accounts and annual financial statements. Ensure that proper accounting records are kept and that appropriate financial controls and systems are in place. Support the development of financial policies and procedures to ensure sustainable growth. Monitor financial performance against agreed budgets and bring any concerns to the Board’s attention in a timely manner. Ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory reporting requirements, including submission of annual accounts to the Charity Commission. Advise the Board on the financial implications of strategic plans, new initiatives, and major projects. Liaise with external accountants or independent examiners where required. Champion transparency, accountability, and the responsible stewardship of funds throughout the organisation. Contribute to Board discussions as an active trustee and promote the wider aims of What About Now.
