We are seeking a trustee with expertise in fundraising and development to support the gallery as we transition to a new funding model. You will be building on a strong foundation to position Bethlem Gallery to make a bigger and more visible impact. Experience with individual giving, capital projects, public funding and/or trusts and foundations will be particularly useful. As part of the trustee board you will lead on strategy and ensure the effective governance of the charity. You will offer guidance and support to the Director and wider Gallery team, particularly in the area of development, model the gallery’s core values and act as an ambassador. We are interested in candidates from a broad range of backgrounds and life experiences who demonstrate a clear passion and commitment to Bethlem Gallery’s mission. You will have a track record of effective fundraising and have some experience of arts, charity or NHS governance. You will bring a clear and demonstrable commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as well as strong interpersonal, collaborative and relationship building skills. The most important requirement for the role are the requisite skills to contribute to the board and a passion for our cause. The Bethlem Gallery board is small, passionate, diverse and skilful. You will join a friendly and dedicated team. The Director and gallery team will support any access requirements (for example, by talking through board papers in advance of meetings, or providing information in different formats). Summary of Trustee Role: • To support the strategy and governance as part of the Trustee board • Salary: Unpaid voluntary role • Location: most meetings are online but at least 1 per year is held at Bethlem Gallery in Beckenham, south east London, or in central London. • Hours: Flexible – the standard expectation of a UK trustee is on average one day/month. The board meets quarterly, usually on a Tuesday evening. • Tenure: 3 years in the first instance, though this is not specified in the articles.
