Friday Gardening Group Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (STH) Co-Lead Volunteer

The Holly Lodge Centre

We are seeking volunteers to join our Friday morning gardening team. You will assist students from a local specialist SEND school to help us in our thriving Victorian-style kitchen garden with planting, watering and harvesting our delicious fruit and vegetables.

Detailed Description

Come and be part of something truly special by joining our Friday morning gardening group as a Co-Lead!  Every week during the growing season, students from a specialist SEND school join us in our vibrant Victorian-style kitchen garden to plant, water, and harvest delicious fruits and vegetables.  Bringing your gardening knowledge and skills, you’ll work alongside a staff member who specialises in supporting SEND pupils. Together, you’ll lead a friendly team of gardening volunteers (approximately eight each week) who support our Friday Gardening Group. If you’ve worked with teens with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) before, that’s fantastic — but it’s not essential. You’ll be supported by skilled professional carers and HLC staff, and you’ll gain invaluable experience along the way.

What is in it for you

As a volunteer, you’ll be supported through training, invited to volunteer events, have opportunities to attend consultations and access to other benefits as part of our volunteer community, all in the heart of the beautiful Richmond Park!

Time Commitment

Friday mornings, 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM  Autumn programme: 4–6 weeks (September–October)  Spring programme: 10–12 weeks (April/May–July)  Our current gardening co-lead also finds that an additional morning per week is beneficial for garden maintenance and preparing appropriate tasks ahead of the Friday session. This (or a similar level of planning time) may be a favourable addition in the future, but it is not essential at the outset.
