Governing body opportunity - Collis Primary School
Collis Primary School
Opportunity to join the governing body of a forward thinking and Outstanding primary school in Teddington. We would be particularly keen to hear from applicants with Safeguarding experience.
We are seeking volunteers to join the governing body of our forward thinking, optimistic and Outstanding school. Joining a school governing body is a great opportunity to develop your skills and help shape the future of children in your local community. Training for the role is provided. We are particularly keen to hear from individuals with experience of Safeguarding and Child protection.
Trusteeships & Committees
Basic IT skills - internet & email, Evaluating & Reviewing, Reading & Writing, People Skills
Training for the role is provided. It would involve carefully reviewing papers and considering questions you might raise with the school team in a Committee or full governing body meeting. Interpersonal skills are also important; you would visit classes at Collis and meet teachers and children as part of your role. You would also need to work alongside fellow members of the governing body as part of a team.
This is a great opportunity to support a school in your local community and also for your professional development. Face-to-face and online training is available via Achieving for Children and other providers. There is the potential to build your skills, (for example by becoming a Committee Chair) over time.
You would need to attend four governing body and six Committee meetings a year. Full governing body meetings (on a Tuesday evening at 6pm) are in school and Committee meetings alternate between face-to-face and online. Governor visits to school to support the work of the governing body are also to be expected - potentially one or two per term. There are also three governor mornings a year (when members of the governing body spend time at Collis with their link year groups observing the work of the school in action).
