School Governor

St Stephens Church of England Junior School Parent Teacher Association

School Governors to join governing body at St Stephen's Church of England Primary School St Margarets.

Detailed Description

Would you be interested in becoming a school governor to join the Governing Body at St Stephen’s Church of England primary school, Winchester Road, St Margarets TW1 1LF? Becoming a school governor can offer an opportunity to make a difference to the lives of young people, it can offer the opportunity to develop new skills in leadership and chairing meetings, working collaboratively, developing strategic thinking and to make connections with your local community. St Stephen’s is a Church of England primary school. Our Governors positions are representative of both the Church and local community and we encourage applicants from any faith or as an agnostic. We have developed our curriculum in line with our Vision. In particular, we recognize that we want our children to understand their place in the world and know they can make a difference. We believe they have the potential to change the world and be future leaders for positive change - in their family, their community, country or the world. In order to capture this, we promote Global Citizenship throughout our curriculum. A global citizen is someone who is aware of and understands the wider world - and their place in it. They take an active role in their community, and work with others to make our planet more equal, fair and sustainable. In 2023 the school was awarded excellent results in The Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) and an OFSTED report of Good with the potential to reach Outstanding in 2024. Both reports are available to view on the school website www.st-stephens.richmond.sch.uk As a Governor you would attend meetings of committees. Every term we have a full governing body meeting held in the evening at the school. We have 5 sub committees that meet once a term, occasionally twice a term if matters arising need further discussion. Depending on individual skills governors join at least two committees and there is opportunity to become a committee chair and potential chair of governors in the future. Some of these committee meeting take place online so you would need access to Google Meets. An important part of the role is visiting the school, talking with pupils and staff, undertaking surveys with the pupils known as “pupil voice” as well as observing lessons. Governors will have access to free training and advice. You will be required to undertake a DBS check which is organised by the school. Governors are supported by the clerk to the governing body. This year headteacher Liz Bachour celebrates twenty years of leadership at St Stephen’s primary school. Our chair of governors brings 6 years of experience in this role and both offer a wealth of experience.
