Bromley Homeless
Overnight volunteers engage with guests during the evening meal, then make sure that our guests feel safe overnight when sleeping in the shelter.
Overnight volunteers engage with guests during the evening meal, then make sure that our guests feel safe overnight when sleeping in the shelter. They will need to: + Welcome guests, check them in, and ensure they understand the shelter’s rules and policies. + Help guests complete any necessary registration forms and distribute any relevant information or materials. + Ensure the dining area is clean and set up for meals + Ability to engage and communicate with guests during the shared meal. + Monitor the well-being of guests, paying particular attention to those who may have health issues or specific needs. + Be present throughout the night to ensure the security of guests and the facility. Overnight volunteers will be required from 7pm - 7am and are always in a team of two volunteers, with a Team Leader who will be on site or contactable by phone. Ideally volunteers will be able to commit to a minimum of one night a fortnight. The Night Shelter aims to open Mid October and will run until April, we are asking volunteers to sign up for a 'season' from October to January- though volunteers may wish to carry on after this.

Ability to communicate and engage with people from a variety of backgrounds, including guests who may have recently been made homeless. We don't expect volunteers to be have experience as counsellors or advisers, and we have trained staff who support guests through our Advice Service. Volunteers are also supported by an experienced Team Leader.
We provide all required training to perform the role (including safeguarding adults online course) and are keen to support experienced volunteers to develop as deputy or team leader roles.
We ask that volunteers arrive for 7pm and leave at 7am the following morning , though can be flexible where work or other start times may be earlier. Ideally we ask volunteers commit to one evening per fortnight between October and January- but this is flexible and we know holidays, family or work commitments can arise.
