River Thames Boat Project
Leading the board and guiding 4 employees of River Thames Boat Project, a river-based charity, which provides acesss to the Thames to disabled/elderly/isolated people and delivers environmental education to primary school children, which makes a positive difference to their lives.
Could you be the new Chair of the River Thames Boat Project and lead the charity in its exciting next phase of growth? The River Thames Boat Project is a charity of over 30 years providing access to the River Thames to a wide range of community groups. With two boats, the charity has two programmes delivered by a dedicated group of volunteers; 1) therapeutic activities which include full- and half-day trips for groups and individuals who have limited access to the river and 2) educational activities with outdoor river-learning experiences for primary schools. The boats are based in Kingston and Teddington. We have recently secured a new riverside home for our boats and our work. The Chair will lead a Board of Trustees and four employees. Key attributes for the role are the ability to devote a half to full day per week to the role, experience in leading and managing others, enthusiasm for the charity’s activities and the benefits of the River Thames, and an ambassadorial role in the surrounding local communities. Please register your interest at: info@thamesboatproject.org including your name and contact details (email and phone number). A Trustee will contact you to answer your questions and provide more details, including a description of the role.

The role involves communicating with staff, trustees and volunteers of a small charity, as well as with the wider community. You should live locally and have the time to commit to the role and be contactable. It would be useful if you have worked for a charity/have knowledge of how a small charity operates. We are looking for a socialable, outgoing, organised person who is a good public speaker and can be an ambassador for the charity. An interest in sustainability is also desirable.
By becoming RTBP's new Chair you will be helping the charity to provide therapeutic days out for elderly, disabled and isolated people, as well as educating primary children about environmental issues. The wonderful feedback we receive will make you proud to be part of a charity that makes such a positive difference to people's lives. You will also become part of our caring volunteer team, which offers social events and provides a great sense of community.
Between half and one day a week.
