Local hedgehog champions - Barnes
Barnes Common
We need local hedgehog champions! Would you like to raise awareness of these small mammals in your local community?
Barnes Hedgehogs is a neighbourhood project and locals take responsibility for their hedgehogs. The Barnes Hedgehog Superhighway has contributed to the growth of the local hedgehog population a great deal and since its inception many more sightings have been reported. Barnes Common has now taken over the species champion role from the founders of Barnes Hedgehogs, Michel and Robin, alongside our related work on hedgehogs and other species within the Richmond Biodiversity Group’s habitat and species action plans. We are therefore offering the following volunteering roles: * Hedgehog Hole Drilling volunteer: this involves drilling holes in people's fences to create access to safe spaces for hedgehogs. Volunteers will be given full training. We hope that once trained, volunteers can offer one day a month to drill holes, or if we have a team, every other month. * Hedgehog Champions: We are looking for local people with a keen interest in hedgehogs to be a champion for their street. Encourage their neighbours to get holes drilled in their garden fences, connecting the gardens as well as their alleyways. Put leaflets through their neighbours’ doors with information about hedgehogs and how they can get involved. Generally champion hedgehogs on their street. If you’re interested in helping this project by volunteering, please get in touch.
