The Hub from Greener and Cleaner is looking for handy volunteer Repair Technicians at our drop-in repair cafés. We are especially interested in anyone with skills in: General household items Electrical appliances Bicycles Furniture & Wooden items Textile & Clothing Mending TASKS MAY INCLUDE Setting up and clearing up: Making sure we have the right tools and equipment ready for opening, and that the workstations are cleared away at the end. Assessing items: Looking at the items brought for repair and deciding if our team has the skills and equipment to fix it. Communicate with visitors: Keep them up to date on the repair process and estimated repair time. Advise them of any visitor paperwork that needs completing. Repairing items: Complete the repair or pass to another team member to do so who may have more direct experience. Provide advice: If we cannot repair an item, suggest alternative sustainable solutions or organisations that could help. SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Experience of using repair tools. Knowledge in one of these areas: General household items, electrical appliances, bicycles, furniture and wooden items or textile and clothing mending. Comfortable working in a customer facing role in a diverse community (essential). ROLE REQUIREMENTS Some technical/mechanical skills (essential). PAT testing training (not essential, we can provide if necessary). It would be helpful if you can provide some relevant tools for the repairing you will be doing (not essential).
