Activities Volunteer
Ham and Petersham SOS
A sociable and fun volunteering role helping run our weekly activities. A flexible role across a variety of different social and wellbeing activities that contribute to keeping our elderly members active, engaged, and independent.
Our mission is to support elderly people in the community to remain active, engaged, and independent. We do this by offering a range of social activities and support services to our members. We are looking to expand our range of activities to include wellbeing sessions such as Sit and Stretch, and gentle walks. We will also continue to run our current weekly activities which include Tea and Chat, Lunch Club, and Fish and Chip Fridays. The activities volunteer helps run an activity and this involves setting up, chatting with members, serving refreshments, and tidying up. This is a flexible role and the volunteer can help with more than one activity by signing up to a rota. Time commitment could be weekly, monthly or occasional.

We are looking for people of all ages with a heart for older and or disabled people. You will need to be reliable, friendly and approachable and have empathy, compassion and patience. You will need good listening skills and be able to engage in conversation, be happy to chat and get to know someone and possibly share their interests.
So many people don't have family who live close to them. We connect people who want to help, with people who need help. It's a win, win. Those who volunteer feel more engaged with the people within their own local communities. And those people who ask us for help are able to get to appointments, see their friends and get out and about. Training opportunities are available as are other volunteer roles and the option to get involved with other volunteers socially.
