The Outreach volunteer role As an Outreach volunteer at Healthwatch Croydon, you will spend time in the community to find out what people think of local health and social care services. Your feedback will help us identify what is working well and where improvements are needed, ensuring local people's voices influence the services they use This will help Healthwatch raise any concerns with service providers to make care better for all. You may speak with people in hospitals, libraries, GP practices, community venues and local events. Some opportunities may also involve online engagement through surveys or virtual platforms. Your role is vital in gathering people’s experience to influence health and social care services. There are benefits in volunteering with Healthwatch Croydon such as: - Develop your skills in a health and social care environment - Increase your confidence working with members of the public - Develop communication, listening and community engagement skills - Receive induction, training and ongoing support Role description • Working with Healthwatch Croydon staff to engage with different communities to hear people’s experience of health and social care services and reporting back • Gathering feedback in person, through online surveys, over the phone or platforms e.g. Zoom, Microsoft Teams • Accurately recording people’s experiences and sharing with Healthwatch staff members • Holding information stands in community areas such as hospitals, libraries and community events to raise awareness of Healthwatch Croydon and how people can share their experience • Follow Healthwatch Croydon’s guidance and procedures while carrying out the role The time involved Our volunteering roles are flexible and fit around your schedule. Ideally, our local Healthwatch Croydon volunteers would be able to make a regular commitment to the role on a weekly or monthly basis, but this role can also be ad-hoc to suit your lifestyle. We will always work closely with you to ensure your volunteering role fits with your other personal and social commitments. Person specification • Effective communication skills, ability to listen and engage with others • A warm, approachable personality, able to empathise with people • Comfortable talking to people from a diverse background • Able to remain impartial while listening to people’s experiences to represent their views accurately • Able to work as a team with other volunteers and staff • Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Work, or willingness to learn • Access to the internet/email • Respectful of confidentiality • Reliable and enthusiastic • Committed to treating everyone with dignity and respect How you will be supported As well as a volunteer handbook, you will have regular contact with a member of the Healthwatch Croydon team to provide you with support and guidance throughout. You will receive full training including induction to Healthwatch Croydon and be part of a team who will make sure your volunteering experience is positive. Although we are flexible, we would like a commitment of at least 3-6 months.
