Evolve Housing + Support

We’re looking for English as a Second Language Support Volunteers to assist our services and work with individuals to help them improve their English language skills.

Detailed Description

Many of our residents have English as a second language and that can cause barriers to accessing support and moving forward. We’re looking for English as a Second Language Support Volunteers to assist our services and work with individuals to help them improve their English language skills. The ESOL Language Support Volunteer will: • Spend time with an individual resident, supporting them to improve their English. • Create individual learning plans and goals to help a resident improve their general level of English. • Use a variety of resources and methods to make learning fun and interesting such as online learning tools, games, role plays and visits. • Work with staff to help create goals and monitor progress. • Be friendly but able to maintain professional boundaries & confidentiality. • Volunteers will not be expected to provide advice or act as a translator.

What skills are required for this role

Language Skills (Eg, French, German, Arabic Etc), Reading And Writing

Why these skills are required

This role would suit you if you are: • A strong communicator. • Able to work with individuals with multiple needs. • Are interested in, and committed to, making a lasting difference to lives and communities. The following skills, experience and qualities would be preferable, but they are not essential: • ESOL or TEFL experience • Teaching • Teacher Training • Teaching Assistant or similar • Being able to speak another language fluently.

As a volunteer with Evolve Housing + Support, you will be able to access: • Experience working within the charity sector • A full, site-specific induction • Ongoing supervision and support from Project Staff • Travel expenses within zones 1-6 (or as otherwise agreed) and lunch expenses if working over 4 hours per day

Time Commitment

The role will require a commitment of at least an hour a week in one of our services and ideally a commitment to at least six months to get to know the resident, learn about the service and see what see what progress has been made.
