Ward Helper

The Ward Helper provides patient contact and insight and experience working in a hospital. The role provides a supportive extra pair of hands, assisting with non clinical tasks. Includes chatting, supporting patients at mealtimes, running errands for staff and patients. Work alongside our clinical colleagues to prepare patients for their meals. • Providing patients and families and friends of patients with tea, coffee and other refreshments • Befriending: spending time with patients who do not have many visitors. This could include playing games, reading or any other activity • Helping patients contact loved ones – this could be using a mobile phone or tablet • Escorting patients to different departments within the hospital for bloods tests, scans and x-rays as instructed by medical staff • Taking samples to the laboratory • Support the nurses with pharmacy collections • Tidying up any day room, if applicable – but not cleaning • Stocks, PPE, storeroom and linen management; ensuring there’s enough and that it’s in the right places in the ward • Carrying out patient experience survey – the Friends and Family Test prior to discharge
