Sewing for charity - making reusable pads for people experiencing period poverty around the world
The Pachamama Project CIO
For anyone with some spare time and access to a sewing machine. Zero-commitment opportunity to sew reusable pads for women and girls around the world - keeping girls in school and restoring dignity.
Anyone with some spare time and access to a sewing machine can get involved. Our volunteers sew from home or in self-organised friendship groups. It is a zero-commitment role with volunteers coming and going, staying long-term or using us as a one-off volunteering opportunity. One pack of eight pads will take someone out of period poverty for at least five years - keeping girls in school and restoring dignity to all. We provide all the instructions and templates and can provide fabric on request. The pads are easy to make and we have a supportive, friendly Facebook Group where volunteers share tips. All pads are acknowledged by email, with volunteers kept up to date on where their pads are heading. A quarterly newsletter provides detailed project updates.
