We are looking to appoint a Volunteer Play Leader to join our growing team of wraparound childcare providers.
As the name suggests, our Play Leaders lead by example exemplifying outstanding levels of professionalism, knowledge and understanding of childcare and the legislated requirements from the Early Years and Foundation Stage as well as positively engaging with older children and young people up to the age of 12. Candidates with previous experience working with children and young people in a professional capacity are ideal, however we would still consider applicants with little or no childcare experience providing they meet the criteria of the post. A kind, caring and enthusiastic approach to working with children is essential and all applicants will be expected to articulate and demonstrate what qualities they will be able to bring to our team if shortlisted for an interview. Restrictions and requirements You will need to: • have a National Insurance Number (NINO) • pass enhanced background checks (DBS) • provide references • pass a 12-week Probation Period • attend mandatory staff induction and training days What you will do Your day-to-day volunteering will include: • providing and setting up play areas, materials and equipment • preparing meals and giving out refreshments • talking to children about their concerns or worries • dealing with injuries and emergencies • building relationships with parents, carers, and other professionals • keeping records and submitting daily feedback to parents and carers Volunteering environment • You will be based within a school setting or commercial premises • Your working environment may be outdoors some of the time. • You will need to wear staff uniform.

Volunteering and experience (Non-essential) • Childminding experience • Play Worker experience • Teaching Assistant • Class Teacher • Youth Group Leader • Youth Sports Coach Qualifications (Non-essential) • GCSE A-C Grade in English, Maths, Computing • NVQ Level 2 Children and Young People’s Workforce (CYPWF) • NVQ / CACHE Level 2 – 5 EYFS / Education & Childcare Degrees • UK Recognised Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) All applicants will need to also: • have a sound command of written and spoken English, • Have good numeracy skills • Be able to confidently use a computer, smart phone and tablet device Skills and knowledge You will need: • sensitivity and understanding • a positive attitude towards children and enjoy working with them. • patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations • the ability to work well with others • to be flexible and open to change • the ability to accept criticism and work well under pressure • excellent verbal communication skills • excellent customer service skills • excellent thinking and reasoning skills • to be able to carry out basic tasks on a computer or hand-held device • to have a good level of health and fitness to enable you to participate in physical activities including sports, dance and circuit training
Career path and progression • With experience and training, and after a successful 12 week Probation Period you will be able to apply for a paid working position with us. Volunteering Week • Monday - Friday between 07:15 and 18:00 term-time. • Maximum volunteering hours per week: 24.75 • Flexible volunteering pattern • Shift work
