Hospital Activities Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers to run activities at the Gresham 2 Ward at Bethlem Royal Hospital. With this role, we envisage that volunteers will go onto the ward and support with leisure activities, such as board games, reading newspapers and book clubs, relaxation, quizzes and puzzles, and general social engagement.

We are looking for volunteers to run activities at the Gresham 2 Ward at Bethlem Royal Hospital. With this role, we envisage that volunteers will go onto the ward and support with leisure activities, such as board games, reading newspapers and book clubs, relaxation, quizzes and puzzles, and general social engagement. The volunteer can also be a general befriender if they prefer. The ward is happy for volunteers to be proactive in running activities that match their existing skills and interests. You would be working alongside the Activity Coordinator and the Occupational Therapist, who will facilitate the activities. Gresham Ward 2 is part of Bethlem Royal Hospital. We offer services for men, aged 18-65, who have acute mental illness and require 24 hour hospital care. Acute illnesses start quickly and have distressing symptoms. We provide care for people who live in the London Borough of Croydon. We offer psychiatric assessment, care and treatment in hospital, which helps to reduce the risk to self and others. Our service brings together teams of health and social care professionals, including nurses, social workers and psychiatrists.

Time Commitment

Weekdays between 9:00-1:00pm and 2:00-5:00pm Commitment: 2-3 hours per week, for a minimum of 9 months

By rail: The nearest stations are Eden Park (Zone 5) and West Wickham (Zone 5). From Waterloo East, London Bridge, Cannon Street and Charing Cross - take the Hayes train. From Eden Park station: turn left along Links Way at the junction with Monks Orchard Road/South Eden Park Road walk down Monks Orchard Road; the hospital is on the right hand side at the of the road. Or bus 356 outside the station. From Victoria station: go to East Croydon and take either the 119 or 194 bus to Monks Orchard Road. By tram: An interchange with London trams is provided at Elmers End station, one stop by train from Eden Park. By bus: Routes 194, 356, 358, 119 (24 hrs), 494, 198 and SL5 service the hospital.
