Why these skills are required

Hand sewists need to be proficient at hand sewing, and ideally carrying out various types of repairs (e.g. different types of garments, using different techniques). Hand sewists can usually work as a team with other sewists where useful and needed. Sewists tend to bring their own tools 7 consumables (e.g. thread etc), though is likely to be opportunity to borrow at least some tools from other sewists. Members of the community bringing items in are required to sit-in on the fixing process, partly to learn, and partly to be on hand in case the sewist needs permission to undertake certain actions that could cause damage to items.

What is in it for you

Volunteers at our events speak of the warm, positive, community vibe, and many of our volunteers do so regularly as a result. Volunteers have also formed friendships with like-minded people, and also developed a stronger connection with the local community as a result. Many people volunteer with us either because of the sustainability / environmental or community theme, or both. Some people volunteer with us to increase their skills and experience, which they can add to their CV. We are always happy to provide references to volunteers based on their time with us. Sewists can claim the costs of consumables and reasonable wear & tear, though this needs to be approved in advance for any significant costs, and receipts are required as evidence
