What skills are required for this role

Why these skills are required

Fixers at our electrical repair events do not need to possess any qualifications, but they do need to be proficient at diagnosing problems with household electrical items, researching replacement parts where required, and carrying out repairs. Fixers will be required to sign-up to some related common-sense safety guidelines and work as a team with other fixers where useful and needed. Fixers tend to bring their own tools. The group has its own PAT tester that can be used where required. Members of the community bringing items in are required to sit-in on the fixing process, partly to learn, and partly to be on hand in case the fixer volunteer needs permission to undertake certain actions that could cause damage to items (e.g. prizing open casings etc)

What is in it for you

Volunteers at our events speak of the warm, positive, community vibe, and many of our volunteers do so regularly as a result. Volunteers have also formed friendships with like-minded people, and also developed a stronger connection with the local community as a result. Many people volunteer with us either because of the sustainability / environmental or community theme, or both. Some people volunteer with us to increase their skills and experience, which they can add to their CV. We are always happy to provide references to volunteers based on their time with us
