Community Collection Volunteer

Blood Cancer UK

As a Community Collection Volunteer for Blood Cancer UK, you’ll organise and host bucket collections at local venues like supermarkets, sports clubs, and high streets. You'll recruit a team, engage with the public, raise awareness, and encourage donations in a friendly way. This flexible role fits around your schedule, with a goal of 3-4 events yearly. Regional Managers provide training and materials. Volunteers must be 18+. This unpaid role is vital for fundraising and community awareness.

Detailed Description

Every year, over 40,000 people are diagnosed with blood cancer in the UK. The key to beating blood cancer is research that improves treatment, and the more research we fund, the more breakthroughs we’ll see and the more lives we can save. As a Community Collection Volunteer, you’ll play a crucial role in expanding our reach and raising awareness of our research, health information, and support services. By helping raise vital money, you will contribute to making a real difference for people affected by blood cancer. You'll work alongside a passionate team of volunteers to achieve our shared goal of raising both funds and awareness. How will I be making a difference? The funds you raise will help us invest in research to: • Develop cures for those with blood cancer, now and in the future. • Improve treatment and care for those living with blood cancer today. • Prevent blood cancer from developing in the first place. Hosting a collection at your local supermarket or sports club helps us reach many people and raise essential donations. Every penny you collect has a significant impact: • £150 could fund a researcher to analyse 120 blood cell samples, potentially leading to a breakthrough. • £210 could help send expert patient information to all those diagnosed with blood cancer today. • £500 could fund a research nurse for three days, supporting patients during their treatment. Key activities • Apply to host and organise bucket collections at local venues. • Attend and support bucket collections in your area. • Encourage others in your network to volunteer and assist with your collections. • Engage with the public, explaining the work of Blood Cancer UK and encouraging donations. • Direct people to our services and resources. • Deposit donations at Barclays Bank, the Post Office, or online as appropriate.
