Warehouse Volunteer

The Felix Project

Warehouse Volunteers are needed to help at The Felix Project’s site in Poplar, E14. You will be sorting and packing donated food into parcels, ready for distribution to local families. Morning shifts are 9.30am to 12.30pm, afternoon shifts are 1pm to 4pm. Once you have completed your first shift you can pick the shifts that suit you, so this is a very flexible role. We welcome applicants aged 16 or over to apply for this role.

Detailed Description

Every day 400,000 children in London have the same thing for dinner. Nothing. The Felix Project rescues good food from supermarkets, restaurants, wholesalers and farms that would otherwise go to waste. It urgently needs volunteers to help fill empty plates. Could you be a food hero in your local community by fighting food waste and hunger? Warehouse Volunteers are needed to help at The Felix Project’s site in Poplar, E14. You will be sorting and packing donated food into parcels, ready for distribution to local families. Tasks include: - Ensuring food quality and safety by checking ‘use by’ and ‘best before’ dates - Sorting and recording food - Assembling food orders placed by charity and community groups - Maintaining health and safety and food hygiene during your sessions - Helping with cleaning and other tasks as identified by warehouse staff Morning shifts are 9.30am to 12.30pm, afternoon shifts are 1pm to 4pm. You should be: • Able to perform physical tasks, including lifting and loading • Able to work effectively and use your initiative in a fast-paced environment • Able to follow The Felix Project's policies, procedures and systems • Interested in food and committed to redistributing food waste to charities • Flexible – there may be times when we ask you to help on other projects/tasks

What is in it for you

You will receive some short training in Manual Handling (2-minute online video) and Food Safety and Hygiene (2-minute online video). Be part of a team of volunteers and know that you have helped others be fed over a very difficult time. Volunteers can claim travel expenses and are offered a free meal

Time Commitment

Shifts are for 3 hours - morning or afternoon. Once you have completed your first shift you can pick the shifts that suit you so this is a very flexible role.
