Co-Driver
The Felix Project
Help ensure surplus food is redistributed to people who would otherwise go hungry. Become a Co-driver with The Felix Project, accompanying one of our volunteer drivers to make deliveries. You will help with loading and unloading vans, navigating, ringing charities and suppliers ahead of arrival, and carrying out some basic admin tasks (noting down temperatures, number of crates collected and delivered and updating route sheets). This is a non-driving role and is open to anyone aged 16+.
The Felix Project rescues good, surplus food from the food industry that cannot be sold and would otherwise go to waste. We collect or receive food from hundreds of suppliers, including supermarkets, wholesalers, farms, restaurants and delis. We then sort and then deliver this food to front line charities, primary schools and holiday programmes in London. As a Co-Driver you will go out in one of our vans, accompanyng a volunteer Driver. You will: - Help with loading and unloading the vans. When setting off from the depot, ensure you are familiar with what produce is to be delivered to which charity or school on your route, and its location in the van. This will enable speedier and more efficient drop-offs. - Navigate for the driver, which involves map reading and using Google Maps on a smartphone. - Ring charities and suppliers ahead of arrival. - On occasions, safely direct the Driver when they are required to manoeuvre the van within a restricted space. - Carry out small administrative tasks which includes noting down temperatures, number of crates collected and delivered and, if required, updating the route sheets with any changes to delivery instructions, contact personnel etc. On return to the depot, ensure the office is made aware of these changes. - Meet with charities and suppliers, acting as an ambassador for The Felix Project. - In the unlikely event that the van is involved in an accident, assist the Driver by completing the ‘Accident Report Form’ located in the van, taking any photos on your phone as required. Shifts are typically 4 hours long, from Monday to Friday. Morning shift: 8:45am – 12:45pm. Afternoon shift: 12:45pm-4:45pm Shifts are very flexible, so you can sign up for whenever you (and the Driver) are both available. This does NOT have to be a regular shift every week. This role is open to anyone aged 16+.
