Kitchen Volunteer

The Felix Project

Kitchen Volunteers are needed to help at The Felix Project’s kitchen in Poplar, E14. You will be part of a team that prepares thousands of nutritious meals, using donated and surplus ingredients, ready for distribution to local families. Shifts are 4 hours. Morning shifts are 9.30am to 1.30pm, afternoon shifts are 12.30pm to 4.30pm. You choose the shifts that suit you. This role is open to anyone aged 16 and over.

Detailed Description

Every day 400,000 children in London have the same thing for dinner. Nothing. The Felix Project rescues good food from supermarkets, restaurants, wholesalers and farms that would otherwise go to waste. It urgently needs volunteers to help fill empty plates. Could you be a food hero in your local community by fighting food waste and hunger? Kitchen Volunteers are needed to help at The Felix Project’s kitchen in Poplar, E14. You will be part of a team that prepares thousands of nutritious meals, using donated and surplus ingredients, ready for distribution to local families. Kitchen volunteers help with a variety of tasks including: - Rescuing surplus food and turning it into delicious meals to be distributed to our charity partners - Cleaning, chopping, and cooking surplus food - Supporting the kitchen team with additional tasks - Helping to maintain a clean and safe working space - Being part of an assembly line packing meals, while maintaining good personal hygiene Shifts are 4 hours long. Morning shifts are 9.30am to 1.30pm, afternoon shifts are 12.30pm to 4.30pm. You choose the shifts that suit you. This role is open to anyone aged 16 and over.

You should: • Maintain good personal hygiene and food safety practices • Be able to follow The Felix Project's policy, procedures and systems • Be flexible – there may be times when we ask you to help on other projects/tasks

What is in it for you

You will receive some short training in: - Food Safety Level 1 (30-45 minutes online) - Manual Handling (2-minute online video) - Food Safety and Hygiene (2-minute online video) - Be part of a team of volunteers and know that you have helped others be fed over a very difficult time Volunteers can claim travel expenses, and will be offered a free meal.

Time Commitment

Shifts last 4 hours (mornings or afternoons) and are available most days. You choose the shifts that suit you best.
