Adult Literacy Trust are looking to train volunteer Reading Coaches to work with adult learners on a one-to-one basis. In this role you will meet a learner, on site at their college campus, for about an hour each week. You will help them practise skills they're learning in the classroom and encourage confidence and resilience so that they persist with their studies.
Adult Literacy Trust are looking to train volunteer Reading Coaches to work with adult learners on a one-to-one basis. What the role looks like in practice: • Meeting a learner weekly, on site at their college campus, for about an hour a week (during weekday daytimes) • Building a constructive relationship with a learner • Helping to check the learner’s understanding, building their confidence in reading, and providing support where needed • Helping the learner practise skills they're learning in the classroom and encourage confidence and resilience so that they persist with their studies.

Adult Literacy Trust (ALT) is looking for volunteers who are: • Good communicators, with strong reading and listening skills • Friendly, warm, and approachable • Reliable and punctual • Empathetic, patient, and non-judgmental • Able to explain things in a simple manner • Passionate about literacy and its importance
• Satisfaction in helping learners make progress • New knowledge and skills from participating in ALT’s in-depth volunteer training • Making new connections • Experience in coaching and mentoring • Experience of supporting learners to overcome barriers
1 hour per week minimum for ideally at least 1 to 2 academic terms (3-6 months). ALT sessions take place during college term-time only and are on weekday daytimes during college hours.
