Detailed Description

1. Carry out specific health and safety (H&S) checks as per agreed timeframes and complete associated check registers. 2. Monitor and follow up the register of all routine equipment maintenance, or periodic legal safety checks e.g. gas check, emergency lighting by sub-contractors together with any follow up actions required. 3. Keep accurate records of inspections and findings. 4. Highlight areas of concern regarding H&S and suggest improvements to the Centre Manager. 5. Ensure new/replacement equipment is installed safely and instruction manuals filed together with any maintenance requirements added to register. 6. Manage and organise the safe disposal of hazardous substances, e.g. paint tins. 7. Work with the Centre Manager to ensure working practices are safe and that staff, volunteers, therapists, counsellors, members and visitors understand the importance of good H&S practices and their own responsibilities.

• Flexible approach and willingness to engage in a ‘hands-on’ role. • Observant, with an attention to detail. • Able to work on own initiative. • Methodical in keeping records. • IT/computer literate would be an advantage. • Good communication skills in order to explain H&S principles/processes as required. • Confident in working with a variety of people, with the ability to be considerate of the circumstances of those who visit and work at SECHC. • A background/experience working in construction, engineering, manufacturing, etc. would be an advantage.

Time Commitment

Up to 4 hours per week (day/time to be agreed – to include time outside standard hours to test alarms). To be agreed in liaison with the Centre Manager.
