Role Detail

Mentor for a young person

XLP

As a Youth Mentor with XLP, you will meet weekly (or fortnightly in some cases) for 1-2 hours, with a young person who needs a trusted adult in their life to support them to achieve their goals. You don’t need special skills as our Mentoring Team will train and support you all the way.

Detailed Description

Mentoring means spending time with a young person every week, one-to-one. You’ll be a trusted role model and someone they can look up to in their journey towards achieving their goals. You’ll provide a space that introduces the young person to new experiences and helps them explore their interests. You don’t need special skills as our Mentoring Team will train and support you all the way. If you want to make a real difference in a young person’s life and help them grow, this is for you! We also ask that you attend a residential with the young person (Fri-Sun) if you can as some young people do not get the opportunity to go away. XLP pay for all expenses and trips.

What skills are required for this role

N/A

Why these skills are required

There are no skills required, just for you to be yourself and have a keen listening ear. We will match you with a young person based on your personality and sometimes hobbies.

What is in it for you

This is an opportunity to create a space for a young person who needs support. You will learn lots of new skills and things about yourself as you journey with the young person. We will also do CVs after mentoring upon request.

Time Commitment

We ask that you commit to the programme for a year, with the hope that you enjoy it so much that you may stay with us and mentor again. During that year we ask you to meet the young person for 1 hour a week or 2 hours a fortnight if you will be doing an activity. There is also a residential XLP hold for all young people being mentored for them and their mentor to come away for an action packed weekend of fun activities and challenges, we would love for you to be available for that to. The residential is over a weekend, leaving Friday evening returning Sunday afternoon.
