Detailed Description

Barnes Common’s DofE program offers young people the opportunity to volunteer in practical hands-on conservation and environmental work across Barnes Common, Leg o’ Mutton Local Nature Reserve and Vine Road Park. We aim to grow the program to include a wider group of students and in particular work with local secondary schools. We are looking for volunteers with an interest in working with the next generation of David Attenboroughs, are enthusiastic about the environment, conservation and nature and don’t mind working outdoors in all weather, getting a bit mucky. If that sounds like you, then please apply Experience working with young people, of DofE, knowledge of conservation, working outdoors, using small hand tools and other equipment is a benefit, but not essential as full training is provided.

Why these skills are required

Experience working with young people, of DofE, knowledge of conservation, working outdoors, using small hand tools and other equipment is a benefit, but not essential as full training is provided. This role requires a DBS certificate, First Aid and Safeguarding (working with children) training, all of which we can provide.

What is in it for you

Supporting young people who are keen to spend time outdoors and volunteer in a positive conservation environment. Barnes Common Limited, in partnership with the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and other key stakeholders, work to maintain practical and strategic conservation and stewardship practice across Barnes Common and Leg o’ Mutton Local Nature Reserves. We have strong education and community engagement programmes across both sites and at our base in Vine Road Park.

Time Commitment

This post would ideally be a weekly commitment of approx 3 hours but this is flexible and open to discussion as to what works for the DofE volunteers and the activities being undertaken.
