Reception Volunteer
Positive East
Reception Volunteers provide a friendly and informative reception service for people visiting Positive East. The role includes welcoming people to our building, answering phone calls and dealing with emails. Reception operates Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm. Sessions are morning, 10am to 1.30pm, and afternoon, 1.30pm to 5pm. Volunteers are asked to sign up on a weekly rote for at least 2 sessions per week. You will work in pairs alongside another volunteer.
Positive East offers a comprehensive and holistic range of HIV support and prevention services. We need reception volunteers to be the welcoming face of Positive East for people coming into the building. As a Reception Volunteer you will: • Answer incoming reception calls. • Provide basic information and signposting • Direct calls to the appropriate staff as necessary. • Record and email messages for staff who are unavailable. • Ensure all visitors feel comfortable while they wait for the member of staff. • Support visitors to access resources at the charity (leaflets, condoms and lubricant) • Inform staff of their visitor’s arrival. • Start up reception computers. • Check email messages. • Check answer machine messages. • Record post and all deliveries in post book. • Notify staff of any post or deliveries. • Check sign in sheets are updated and have correct date. • Check handover diary for any notes from previous reception shift. • Update staff whereabouts sheets. • Record any Gym induction requests. • Ensure all visitors, staff and volunteers sign in, including gym users. • Respond to sexual health queries. • Attend all relevant training including role induction, building induction, prevention and testing awareness, basic IT and first aid. • Attend one to one check-ins with supervisor. • Familiarise yourself with Volunteer Handbook. Our reception operates Monday to Friday, 10.00am to 5pm. Volunteering sessions are mornings (10am to 1.30pm) and afternoons (1.30pm to 5pm). Volunteers are asked to sign up on a weekly rota for at least 2 sessions per week. You will work in pairs alongside another volunteer.

• Gain experience of working in the charity sector • Gain interpersonal skills that are useful in both professional and personal life • Gain extensive knowledge and skills of HIV testing and prevention, including the opportunity to gain clinical testing experience (if you wish to) • Gain experience with clinical record keeping within our online database • Receive ongoing support in conducting your role as well as continual personal development • Develop computer skills, including database systems • Be part of a vibrant network of valued volunteers at Positive East We can provide a reference once you have volunteered.
2 sessions per week (mornings 10am-1.30pm / afternoons 1.30pm-5pm) Monday to Friday only.
