The volunteer Safeguarding Champion must ensure that their group implements, understands and works within the Read Easy UK Safeguarding Policy, as well as organising DBS checks when necessary.
The volunteer Safeguarding Champion must ensure that their group implements, understands and works within the Read Easy UK Safeguarding Policy, as well as organising DBS checks when necessary. While this role requires less time than some of our other Management Team positions, it is no less valuable, as the person who takes it on will be responsible for both the Reader’s and the Reading Coach’s safety. In addition to general Safeguarding Awareness training provided to all local volunteers, the Safeguarding Champion is required to undergo an extra 2-hour online safeguarding training. The time commitment for this role over and above ensuring that members of the group are working within the requirements of the Safeguarding Policy will really depend on whether there are any safeguarding incidents. These are rare, so this role can be fulfilled alongside another role on the Management Team. You will be required to attend monthly Management Team meetings.
