We are looking for people aged 18+ who want to join LBTH to become Community Health and Wellbeing Champions. CHWCs are unpaid volunteers who support the Council’s Public Health Team by: • Promoting health – sharing important health information with the community • Connecting people – helping local residents access health services • Listening and sharing – gathering feedback from the community to improve health programmes. No experience is needed - we provide full training and support.
Tower Hamlets Public Health Team is looking for people who live in Tower Hamlets to become Community Health and Wellbeing Champions. Our aspirations are for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets (LBTH) to be a place where residents have equal access to opportunities to reach their potential and have a good quality of life. What is a Community Health and Wellbeing Champion? Community Health and Wellbeing Champions are unpaid volunteers who live in Tower Hamlets. They support the Council’s Public Health Team by: • Promoting health – sharing important health information with the community • Connecting people – helping local residents access health services • Listening and sharing – gathering feedback from the community to improve health programmes. Community Health & Wellbeing Champions will talk with residents about a range of health issues. These could include; reducing alcohol, stopping smoking, tackling obesity, opting into vaccinations, improving mental health and taking up cancer screening. What will I do as a Community Health and Wellbeing Champion? Your tasks will include: • Attending training to prepare for the role. • Sharing health information with neighbours, local groups and networks. • Directing people to the right health services. • Helping at health fairs and community events. • Giving feedback to the Public Health team on what works and what doesn’t. • Helping to create health messages that are clear and culturally appropriate. • Meeting with other Champions to share ideas and support each other. • Checking in with the Volunteer Coordinator for guidance and support. This is a fantastic role for anyone who is passionate about promoting better health in Tower Hamlets or interested in pursuing a career in public health. No experience is needed. We provide full training and support. We are looking for people who: • Currently live in Tower Hamlets and are 18 or older. • Are interested in improving health and wellbeing in the community. • Have good communication skills and can speak and read English (speaking other community languages like Bengali/Sylheti or Somali is a plus, but this is not required). • Enjoy talking to people face-to-face and working in a team. • Have some local community connections, eg with neighbours, clubs or parent groups. • Can volunteer, on average, for 8-10 hours per month for at least one year. • Can travel around Tower Hamlets for events and enjoy getting out and about (travel costs can be reimbursed). This is a face-to-face role. • Represent the diversity of Tower Hamlets’ population and groups who find it hard to access services.
You’ll complete two and a half days of compulsory training so that you feel confident and ready to volunteer. This includes: • Make Every Contact Count (MECC) training (half a day) which includes looking at the Five Ways to Wellbeing, a set of simple steps that can make a difference to health and wellbeing. This training will take place on Thursday 16th April 2026 , 10am-1.30pm, at a venue in Tower Hamlets. • Royal Society of Public Health (RSPH) accredited Level 2 Understanding Health Improvement training (2 days). This is a qualification - you will be given a certificate upon completion. This training will take place on Wednesday 22nd and Wednesday 29th April 2026, 9.30am-2.30pm, at a venue in Tower Hamlets. • There will be more training available and the Public Health Volunteer Co-ordinator will support you. You’ll also be part of a friendly team of Health and Wellbeing Champions. You will be helping to improve the health of people living in Tower Hamlets.
After completing the training you will, on average, volunteer for 8-10 hours per month for at least one year.
