Mentor for Families and Children (online)

Relationship Circle CIC

Would you like to support local families and children who are experiencing relationship challenges and emotional issues at home, work or school? Relationship Circle is looking for committed volunteers to join us as mentors. Full training and support provided. The next training session is on Wednesday 2 April 2025, 6pm-7.30pm. Flexible volunteering hours depending on your availability (ideally 12 – 15 hours per month).

Detailed Description

Would you like to support local families and children who are experiencing relationship challenges and emotional issues at home, work or school? Relationship Circle is looking for committed volunteers to join us as mentors. As a volunteer Mentor you will be carefully matched to a member who has made a request for the service, The role will involve one-to-one virtual conversations with individual members. Later on there may be opportunities to lead online group sessions. Through the sessions, you will help them to address relationship/ emotional problems between school mates/ friends/ partners/ family members eg. bullying at school, feeling unsettled in new living environment, separation/divorce, impacting on finance, leading to complicated family issues, impact on employment, education, housing and health. You will be provided with training, ongoing support and supervision. No accredited counselling qualification is required but life experience is crucial for this role. The next training session is on Wednesday 2 April 2025, 6pm-7.30pm. After receiving training, you will be matched to a mentee. There might be a short gap while we find the right mentee for you.

Why these skills are required

• Experience of working with vulnerable individuals/families. • Experience of working with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. • Ability to work on own initiative and a willingness to carry out a small amount of preparation for each session. - Ability to use online video platforms such as Zoom/Teams. • Ability to think creatively and problem-solve. • Excellent Communication/ interpersonal skills. • Good facilitation skills. • Common sense, intelligence, friendliness, maturity, sensitivity and responsibility. • Ability to cope with emotionally demanding and stressful situations. • Commitment to and ability to work in accordance with Relationship Circle C.I.C.’s boundaries. • Motivated by the wellbeing of individuals we work with.

What is in it for you

• Ongoing training is offered for the volunteer’s personal development; • Mentor Supervision meetings are offered quarterly; • Case Management is ongoing throughout the match; • Volunteer Mentors receive ongoing support and recognition. • A mentoring supervisor will be assigned to provide support and supervision.

Time Commitment

12–15 hours per month (flexible hours depending on your availability). The next training session is on Wednesday 2 April 2025, 6pm-7.30pm.

In Tower Hamlets we are focusing on supporting migrants from Hong Kong. We would especially welcome volunteers from a Hong Kong background, but this is definitely not essential. We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds.
