Parkrun is a free, community event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate. Parkrun is 5k and takes place every Saturday morning. It is entirely organised by volunteers. Parkrun is positive, welcoming and inclusive. There is no time limit and no one finishes last. Everyone is welcome to come along. Please register before you first come along. Once you are registered, Parkrun can enter you on the system each time you volunteer, and you will earn credits towards a milestone Parkrun t-shirt. This is an incentive to commemorate runners, walkers and volunteers who have participated regularly, starting with 25 credits for adults. The time commitment is 8:45am to 10am on a Saturday morning. There is no requirement to volunteer regularly, so this is a very flexible role. All training is provided. We have roles for everyone. Some are active and require walking. Others are more static. If you are not sure which role would suit you best we can chat and help you decide: The Event Day Course Checker involves checking the entire route is safe to use on the day of the event (this is an active role where you will walk 2 kilometres). The Marshal guides and encourages participants around the course, warning them of any obstacles or hazards, as well as ensuring that other park users are aware of the event. They are also the eyes and ears of the Run Director out on the course. The Parkwalker is a friendly face who provides support and encouragement to walkers, as part of our commitment to increasing the number of people who walk at our events. A Parkwalker is entitled to receive both a volunteer credit and a walk/run credit when carrying out this role (this is active role where you will walk 5 kilometres). The Tail Walker stays right at the back of the field and should be the last person to cross the finish line, ensuring that everyone is accounted for. They are encouraged to carry a mobile phone in case of emergencies. A Tail Walker is entitled to receive both a volunteer credit and a walk/run credit when carrying out this role (this is an active role where you will walk 5 kilometres). The Timekeeper is responsible for recording the finish times of all the participants at the event (a mobile phone is needed for this role). The Finish Tokens Volunteer is responsible for handing out position tokens to all participants. They may be assisted by Finish Tokens Support. The Barcode Scanning Volunteer scans participants' personal barcodes, followed by their barcodes on the finish position token (a mobile phone is needed for this role). The Volunteer Co-ordinator maintains the volunteer roster, ensuring that there are enough people to fill all the roles above each week. This is a great role for a social person who would like to talk to people. Parkrun roles based at the start/finish line are open to teenagers, who will be supervised by older DBS checked volunteers. These roles may suit young people completing D of E awards.

- Some roles require a mobile phone with the Parkrun volunteer app downloaded (timekeeper, barcode scanner). All the rest do not. - Some roles are around the start/finish area (finish tokens, barcode scanning, token sorting). - Several roles have some walking involved (marshalls walk from the start to their positions and back - 2k-3k), Tailwalkers and Parkwalkers walk the full 5k route. These are great roles if you want to be more active.
- We have a wonderful volunteer community that support the event every week, and we usually go for coffee afterwards. - Parkrun is fully volunteer-run, so there is a great feeling of having helped to make something meaningful happen every week. - Our Marshals and Tailwalkers walk out to their stations on the course, so these roles include gentle exercise for those who would like that. Other positions like barcode scanning or handing out finish tokens stay around the start/finish area and can chat with other volunteers. - Parkrun introduced the milestone t-shirt incentive to commemorate runners, walkers and volunteers who have participated regularly, starting with 25 for adults. Parkrun could not happen without our wonderful volunteers.
