As a Youth Support Volunteer with our BRAVE Girls program, you’ll be an essential part of creating a positive, safe space for girls ages 8-14 to learn, connect, and grow.
St. Hilda’s East is a local charity which aims to combat the challenges arising from deprivation and social exclusion through the delivery of a wide range of engaging activities which promote wellbeing and social connections. Located in Tower Hamlets, we run a large, friendly Community Centre in Shoreditch, with an Elders Day Centre (Sonali Gardens) for the Bangladeshi and other communities, located in Shadwell. This year we are proud to be celebrating the charity’s 135th anniversary. Services include pre-school activities and youth projects, support for older people, legal advice, a food co-operative, wellbeing activities for people experiencing mental health issues, and volunteering placements. As a Youth Support Volunteer with our BRAVE Girls program, you’ll be an essential part of creating a positive, safe space for girls ages 8-14 to learn, connect, and grow. As a Youth Support Volunteer, you’ll assist in planning and delivering engaging weekly sessions that help young girls build resilience, boost well-being, and make meaningful social connections. From setting up activities to being a supportive presence during the sessions, your role is to inspire and guide these young minds to develop their confidence and connect with others. What you’ll be doing - Your Key Responsibilities • Session Support: Assist in planning and delivering weekly group sessions for girls ages 8-14, from setting up and arranging supplies to creating an inclusive, positive atmosphere. • Mentorship: Be an approachable role model, encouraging active participation and providing a safe space for self-expression. • Community Connection: Work with group members to co-design activities that boost well-being, foster friendships, and promote positive choices. • Record-Keeping: Help with data entry to track attendance, collect feedback, and gather case studies. • Promotion & Outreach: Support the program by creating content for social media, helping to expand our reach. • Trips: Join us for occasional external trips, providing supervision and support for group outings.

Training Opportunities As a Youth Support Volunteer, you’ll have access to training to support your personal and professional growth. This may include: • Youth Work Training: Enhance your skills in engaging with young people, managing groups, and promoting positive behavior. • Safeguarding and First Aid: Ensure you’re prepared to create a safe environment for the young people you support. • Ongoing Support: Regular check-ins and opportunities to receive feedback and mentorship from experienced staff. • These training opportunities will not only equip you with the tools to support the BRAVE Girls program but also help you grow in your role, whether you're new to youth work or looking to enhance your existing skills. • Reimbursement for Travel Expenses • We understand that volunteering requires a commitment of time and effort, and we want to ensure that your experience is as accessible as possible. As such, we offer reimbursement for travel expenses incurred while attending your volunteer shifts, and lunch for shifts over 4 hours as detailed in the Volunteer handbook.
Minimum 6 months commitment for 3 hours a week: Thursday 4.30-7.30pm
