The primary role of a youth mentor is to develop a personal and positive rapport with a young person, and this involves consistent meetings with the child and ensuring the meeting times are enjoyable and comfortable. Mentors will work with a young person to establish goals and provide consistent support and encouragement to their mentee. To help the young person develop self-confidence, the mentor should be innovative in engaging young people by using their areas of interest.
