Healthier Me Cooking Volunteer (Sutton, London)

Royal Mencap Society

We need volunteers to support our Me Time service in Sutton with their cooking session on Wednesday mornings. This will involve supporting the healthy eating cooking session and may also involve supporting the team to make a cookbook of their recipes, taking photos and supporting with the recipes.

Detailed Description

Our Healthier Me programme plays a vital role in promoting health and wellbeing across our communities. It encourages people to make positive lifestyle choices by sharing practical, achievable tips around healthy eating, physical activity, and mental wellbeing. We are looking for friendly, enthusiastic volunteers to support this programme by delivering Healthy Eating workshops through cooking demonstrations or follow-along sessions. These sessions may take place with: People we support with a learning disability, Mencap Network Partners. As a volunteer, you’ll work alongside our staff teams, and the people we support to co-create easy, affordable, and healthy recipes that reflect the needs, preferences, and abilities of each group. Your role will help people with a learning disability develop greater confidence and independence around food and health, while also supporting staff and partners to feel more confident preparing nutritious meals within their services. Opportunities may be weekly, quarterly, or one-off, depending on local needs within our Healthier Me Hubs. We specifically need volunteers to support our Me Time service in Sutton initially - their cooking session is on Wednesday mornings. This will involve supporting the cooking session and may also involve supporting the team to make a cookbook of their recipes, taking photos and supporting with the recipes. A Level 2 Food Safety Hygiene Certificate is required. We can fund this if you do not already hold this qualification.
