Food Pantry Service Delivery Volunteer

Bromley By Bow Centre

Bromley by Bow Centre is looking for a person who is passionate about supporting people with food provision and can volunteer on Thursdays between 09:30 and 13.30. The role includes assisting pantry members with selecting items, taking payments, booking appointments, helping to manage food supplies in a safe manner, keeping food pantry and communal areas safe, clean and tidy. You will talking to and connect with Food Pantry members to provide a warm welcome each week.

Detailed Description

Bromley by Bow Centre's Food Pantry supports people experiencing food insecurity by providing low-cost food and essential items, while addressing medium and long-term financial issues through holistic support. It aims to provide individual dignity by lowering the financial barriers to providing food, offering choice, and supporting long-term change. We are looking for a person who is passionate about supporting people with food provision and can commit to volunteering on Thursdays between 9:30am and 1.30pm. The role includes: - assisting pantry members with selecting items - taking payments - booking appointments - helping to manage food supplies in a safe manner - helping to ensure the food pantry and communal areas are kept safe, clean and tidy. - talking to and connecting with Food Pantry members, so we can provide a warm welcome each week. - supporting members to access other services, activities and events, at the Bromley by Bow Centre and externally.

Activities you will be doing

Retail & Charity Shops,Food Supply (i.e. Foodbanks, School meals)

What skills are required for this role

Basic IT skills - internet & email, Language Skills, Customer Service

Why these skills are required

We are ideally looking for someone who lives locally and/or know the local area, and who has good communication and interpersonal skills so that pantry members feel welcome and supported Work-related experience of food and/or food projects or working in retail would be helpful so the service can run safely Ideally you will be someone comfortable with using technology to take payments and enter and edit data on a spreadsheet.

The Bromley by Bow Centre is a five-minute walk from Bromley by Bow Tube Station and ten minutes from Devon’s Road DLR Station and Bow Church DLR Station. You can visit us using local bus services; both the D8 and 488 stop outside the Centre on St Leonard’s Street.
