Food Pantry Donations and Stock Volunteer

Bromley By Bow Centre

We are looking for a person who is passionate about supporting people with food provision and can commit to Wednesdays between 1-5pm to join our team. The role includes assisting with taking in deliveries and donations received, recording items received, checking dates on food items received, ensuring items are stored safely and helping to fill the pantry shelves for the next service delivery day.

Detailed Description

The Food Pantry supports people experiencing food insecurity by providing low-cost food and essential items while addressing medium and long-term financial issues through holistic support. It aims to provide individual dignity by lowering the financial barriers to providing food, offering choice, and supporting long-term change. We are looking for a person who is passionate about supporting people with food provision and can commit to Wednesdays between 1-5pm to join our team. The role includes assisting with taking in deliveries and donations received, recording items received, checking dates on food items received, ensuring items are stored safely and helping to fill the pantry shelves for the next service delivery day.

What skills are required for this role

Why these skills are required

We are looking for someone who are physically fit, able to unload donations and deliveries and help plan and place items either in our storage area or directly onto pantry shelves. Someone who can help us ensure the pantry is full, offers our members a wide range of items to choose from and the pantry and storage area are clean and tidy.

The opportunity to improve skills including planning, teamwork and communication, receive ongoing support and training relevant to the role and they can also claim travel expenses in line with the Bromley by Bow Centre's volunteering policy.

Time Commitment

We are looking for someone who can commit to 4 hours a week on a Wednesday between 1-5pm

The Bromley by Bow Centre is a five-minute walk from Bromley by Bow Tube Station and ten minutes from Devon’s Road DLR Station and Bow Church DLR Station. You can visit us using local bus services; both the D8 and 488 stop outside the Centre on St Leonard’s Street.
