Hotel Assistant - Crisis at Christmas

This is an opportunity to take part in the ‘Crisis at Christmas’ project. At Christmas, Crisis supports people experiencing homelessness by providing accommodation and services to people with the most urgent need. This is with the aim of helping people to ultimately leave homelessness behind. Volunteer for 2 days (or more) between 22 December 2024 and 21 January 2025.

Detailed Description

This is an opportunity to take part in the ‘Crisis at Christmas’ project. Over Christmas, Crisis supports people experiencing homelessness by providing accommodation and services to people with the most urgent need. This is with the aim of helping people to ultimately leave homelessness behind. Crisis will be providing accommodation, services and entertainment in a hotel in Aldgate between Sunday 22 December 2024 and Tuesday 21 January 2025. As a Hotel Assistant, volunteers will have a multi-faceted role, which may include: - ‘Welcome and Reception’ - greeting guests on arrival and getting them settled into the centre - ‘Gap Duty’ - Looking after a part of the centre / ensuring no one enters an area which is off-limits - ‘Meal Service’ – Helping with a table or buffet service of meals or serving teas, coffees and snacks - ‘Neighbourhood Management’ - cleaning, making sure the outside environment is tidy and safe - ‘Help and Support’ - Looking after salon or healthcare appointments or helping out with arts and crafts - ‘Back of House’ – Helping with the centre’s stock, clearing rubbish and recycling, clothing store - ‘Ad Hoc’ – Wrapping and delivering Christmas gifts in our hotels, supporting on trips to museums or our football tournament, etc. Applications for the role are open via the Crisis website from mid-October. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Time Commitment

Volunteering takes place between 22 December 2024 and 21 January 2025 while the hotel is open. We require a minimum commitment of two shifts for this role. Shifts are roughly 8 to 10 hours long. There are three shifts each day (morning shift, afternoon shift, night shift). Volunteers can choose the shifts that suit them when applying on our website, subject to availability.
