Chair of Trustees for an impactful local charity
The Squad
The Squad Club are seeking a new Chair of Trustees who will provide strategic leadership and a positive collaborative culture as we continue our progress of renewal and growth. And, ultimately, continue to provide excellent experiences for our members.
This is an exciting time for the Squad Club - a hyper-local impactful charity that supports young people and adults with learning disabilities through our Thursday night social clubs. Our super-friendly, diverse (and fun) Board of Trustees are looking for a new Chair to join the team and help shape our future. The last two years have been a period of renewal and growth, placing our members at the heart of our work. We are now wishing to continue our growth sustainably, strengthening our work, and meet the growing demand for our Clubs from the local community.

A successful Chair of Trustees must be a strategic thinker and leader, able to empower others and draw on the experience and expertise around them - including our members and families. They will have previous Trustee or Board experience but this does not need to be with The Squad or a learning disability charity. It would be beneficial to have knowledge and experience of learning disabilities, but not essential. Instead we ask candidates to be open-minded and willing to learn. We are proud that our Trustee team already includes family member representatives. Essential Strategic vision Leadership skills Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort Good, independent judgment Sound understanding of financial information Ability to think creatively Willingness to speak their mind Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of Trusteeship Ability to work effectively as a member of a team Experience of committee work Tact and diplomacy Good communication and interpersonal skills Impartiality, fairness and the ability to respect confidences
The impact of the Squad Club can be seen week-in-week-out for our members, their families, volunteers, Trustees and colleagues. We claim to be the 'friendliest club in London' and you will come away from the sessions energized and having connected with amazing people. As Chair, you will be supported by the team of Trustees and staff members, fulfilling our duties and stewarding this amazing charity through this next period, delivering our vision- Our vision is to create a member-first community that provides empowering social opportunities to enable adults and young people with learning disabilities to live their lives, be included, to have their voice heard and make their own choices. We seek to achieve this by offering inclusive, informal educational and fun social activities through our Thursday evening sessions. We create an environment where our Members,Volunteers and Club Leaders, together, experience opportunities, learn new skills, build confidence and improve mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. We currently run two clubs but recognise there is growing demand from our local communities. As Chair you will have a key role to play as we continue to build towards our ambitions, whilst doing so sustainably, effectively and always with our members at the centre.
