Helicopter Stories After School Club is a fun and engaging session on Tuesday afternoons during term time, where children aged 4 to 7 can express and further develop their imagination and creativity through storytelling and drama. You will be assisting with facilitating drama, games and storytelling with the children, as well as welcoming and general supervision of children, and setting up and facilitating of the end-of-term drama performance to parents/carers.

Detailed Description

Helicopter Stories After School Club is a fun and engaging session where children aged 4 to 7 years can express and further develop their imagination and creativity through storytelling and drama. The club also provides children with the opportunity to develop new relationships and increase their social and communication skills. The club runs for an hour, once a week on Tuesday afternoons from 4pm to 5pm. Volunteers are expected to arrive at 3.45pm for a briefing and to stay until 5.15pm for a debrief. The club runs during term time only and is scheduled to commence on Tuesday 24 September 2024. The Helicopter After School Club Volunteer will: • Assist in welcoming, registering and settling children into the session. • Assist in leading children in drama and other games. • Lead on volunteer-selected drama games (if you feel confident and competent to do so, and only after observing drama games). • Support children in storytelling and drama productions, eg scribing stories dictated by the children. • Support and lead a small group of children in formulating drama, i.e. selecting children to narrate stories, scribing stories, assigning roles and helping children to structure dramas (this is only necessary when the number of children in attendance allows). • Assist in the setting up and facilitating of end-of-term children's drama performance to parents/carers. • Assist in the general supervision of children at the club. We are looking for one or two male or female volunteers with a good level of spoken and written English.

A good level of spoken and written English. A liking of and enjoyment of engaging with primary aged children from varying social, ethnic and cultural backgrounds in a respectful, caring and friendly manner. Enjoys engaging in creative projects. Good time keeping skills. A willingness to learn and develop. A willingness to follow instructions and take on some level of responsibility.

Opportunity to learn and observe how storytelling and drama impact on and encourage various aspects of children's development. For example children's imagination, organisational and communication skills. We will provide a reference. Volunteers also receive in-house safeguarding training.

Time Commitment

The club runs for an hour once a week on Tuesday afternoons 4pm to 5pm. Volunteers are expected to arrive at least 15 minutes earlier for a briefing and to stay up to 15 minutes later for a debrief. The club runs term time only. The club is scheduled to commence on Tuesday 24 September 2024.
