Detailed Description

Barts Health NHS Trust is currently recruiting volunteers for the Royal London Hospital. You will attend and support areas of high pressure to improve patient experience, reduce discharge waiting times, and release staff time to care. Once on site on shift, volunteers will respond to direct calls/bleeps for assistance in a number of key areas that we recognise as pinch points. Your support will enable the smooth running of the area. Volunteers will be trained to respond to requests in real time situations and have the fluidity to move around according to the daily patient non-clinical requirements of each of the Barts Trust Hospital sites. This is a really exciting opportunity for volunteers to get involved in multiple arenas across a busy hospital. You will be at the cut and thrust of the hospital demand, involved in a variety of different services. Some of the tasks you could be doing include:  Supporting the Emergency Department during high pressure  Picking medication up from the pharmacy  Helping to discharge patients  Helping patients who might be at End of Life Care or supporting the family/carer, should they need help  Visiting a patient on a ward who is confused or lonely  Helping a family member or carer who may be distressed  Helping to escort a patient to a test or examination This role is very diverse and you will always be very busy doing something that will be of support and impact to the areas, patients or visitors that you will help on the day. We are looking for volunteers to offer a minimum 6 months. You will sign up to shifts via an online rota. We like volunteers to spend around 3 hours at a time in the hospital, but you can volunteer for a slightly shorter period if you are very busy. Volunteering can be any day of the week and any time of day. Volunteers will be DBS checked, but we will also accept DBS certificates issued within the last 6 months. You will also be expected to undergo an Occupational Health Check.
