Children's Mentor

The Kids Network

The Kids Network helps children at a crucial stage — the move from primary to secondary school — by matching them with a volunteer mentor from their community. We are now looking for volunteer mentors in Tower Hamlets to support children through 1:1 weekly sessions for a year. With full training provided, you’ll help build children’s confidence, resilience and future potential — all while having fun together. You should be available for a weekly session (lasting 1 to 3hrs) for a year.

Detailed Description

As children head back to school this term, the need for consistent support is greater than ever. The Kids Network helps children at a crucial stage — the move from primary to secondary school — by matching them with a volunteer mentor from their community. We are now looking for volunteer mentors in Tower Hamlets to support children through 1:1 weekly sessions for a year. With full training provided, you’ll help build children’s confidence, resilience and future potential — all while having fun together. Whether you’re playing games or discussing goals, you’ll be making a difference to a child’s life by building their confidence, resilience and helping them develop the tools for a positive future. You’ll also get to learn new things about yourself and develop your skills and connections through our peer mentoring network. You will be trained and assisted to provide safe, fun and engaging mentoring. Sessions will be weekly and will last between 1 and 3 hours over the course of one year. You will focus on the individual needs of the child, supporting them during a crucial stage in their social and emotional development. You will do different activities together, across the borough, which can include visiting parks, museums, cafes etc.

Time Commitment

Each session is between 1 and 3 hours long, and sessions take place once a week. This will be outside of school hours, so you will need to be available to mentor either on a weekday straight after school, or in the early evening, or at the weekend.

Meetings take place in Tower Hamlets. You will pick the child up from outside their home or school and you will do different activities together in the community. Activities can include visiting parks, museums, cafes etc.
