Carers Link Befriending and Mentoring Volunteer (Telephone Support)

To provide light touch support by talking with older, isolated or bereaved carers regularly by phone. To provide stimulation, a link to the centre, and to specialist support. To build confidence for the carer to reconnect with the outside world.

Detailed Description

To provide light touch support by talking with older, isolated or bereaved carers regularly by phone. To provide stimulation, a link to the centre, and to specialist support. To build confidence for the carer to reconnect with the outside world. Key Responsibilities Attend initial induction training and on-going training and support sessions (monthly) Holding a case load of named carers Communicating with your matched carers at the agreed frequency for up to 12 weeks, usually weekly Establish and maintain appropriate boundaries Engaging with your matched carer, active listening and conversation, signposting/referring to appropriate support and services as identified. Engage in conversation, and where appropriate, encouraging your matched carers to attend social groups e.g. coffee mornings, one off-events, if they feel they would like to (supporting any goals they may have set) Inform the Carers Link Coordinator of any concerns about the carer Provide a summary of each contact with the carer to the Carers Link Coordinator Respecting the carer’s confidentiality (within the carers centre) even in difficult situations
